Configuring your Assemblies
Assign components to an assembly in the Assembly Builder, then arrange and save the component list. The saved list appears on the sheet when you place the assembly and feeds your bill of materials.
The video uses a modified duplex receptacle assembly to show how to add brackets and a box, confirm the assignments, and reorder the list.
What you'll learn
- Open the Assembly Builder from the Assemblies tab or Project Settings
- Review the parts already on an assembly
- Open Manage Components from the assembly
- Pick components from your parts list by category
- Save the assignment and check the result
- Reorder the component list
Components come from your parts bucket—the parts list you uploaded or created. Upload or create the parts you need before assigning them to an assembly.
Part 1 — Open the Assembly and Review Its Parts
- Open the Assembly Builder from the Assemblies tab, or from Project Settings.
- Open the assembly you want to edit. The video uses the duplex receptacle.
- Scroll to the bottom to review the parts associated with the assembly.
- Click Manage Components to open the assembly directly.
- Check the category you want to add, such as brackets.
- Review the available brackets from your parts list.
- Check the options you want available on this assembly.
- Check the box category and select the box you want. The video uses a four square combo box.
- Click Assign Selected Components.
- Close the assembly.
- Reopen the assembly and scroll down to confirm the new options.
- Arrange the component list in the order you want to save.
- Click Save.
Note: The duplex receptacle in the video has been modified and shows only one mud ring. A mud ring alone is not a complete duplex receptacle assembly.
Note: The video shows the default parts list. Your company may have custom assemblies.
Note: You can reach Manage Components from the assembly itself, or from the Assembly Builder when working through a whole library.
Note: Select components from your parts bucket here. This screen does not import a whole parts list or upload individual items.
Note: The next time you place the assembly, the saved component list appears on the sheet and feeds your bill of materials.
