IQ Skills – Panel Quote Extractor (2:20)

 Overview

This video covers a single IQ Skill: the Electrical Panel Quotation Extraction Template. Run it once and IQ parses the entire project, finds the E sheets, reads the one-line diagrams and equipment sheets, and reports back every panel and piece of electrical equipment on the job with its detail — panel type, lugs, materials, and more. It is built for anyone pulling a panel or gear quote together who does not want to hand-page through the electrical set. The video also shows the yellow source links in the chat and the trust-but-verify workflow that goes with them.

Before You Begin

This skill runs against what is in the project, so the electrical set has to be uploaded first. IQ looks specifically for the E sheets — the one-line diagrams and the equipment and panel schedule sheets. Set aside a little bit of time before you kick it off: the skill runs on the whole project, not on the sheet you happen to have open.

Part 1 — Open IQ and Locate IQ Skills

1. Open the project you want to extract panels from.
2. Open IQ.
3. In the chat window, look in the upper right-hand corner to locate IQ Skills.
4. Open IQ Skills to see the skills available to you.
5. From IQ Skills, select the Electrical Panel Quotation Extraction Template.
6. Kick the skill off.
7. Leave the run to work. The skill parses through your entire project looking for the E sheets — specifically the one-line diagrams and equipment — to identify all the panels and equipment on your project.
8. Watch the chat as IQ extracts the findings into one big list.
9. In the chat, find the yellow link on the piece of equipment you want to check — for example, MSB 2.
10. Click the link.
11. IQ takes you straight to the panel schedule page for that equipment and highlights the panel on the sheet.
12. Open the highlighted panel schedule from the yellow link.
13. Bring that screen up right next to where IQ reported the data in the chat.
14. Compare the reported values against the schedule and spot-check them.
15. Move to the next piece of equipment and repeat on a sample of the list.
16. Scroll down through the chat to see all the different pieces of equipment the skill returned.
17. Confirm the list covers the equipment you expect on the project.
18. Use the finished list as your panel and gear quotation take-off — the entire project list is already done for you.

Part 2 — Understand What an IQ Skill Is

Skills inside AECinspire carry greater power than a typical prompt, or even a series of prompts. Think of a skill as a very structured way to get the same report on any project — the structure is built in, so the output is consistent job to job instead of depending on how you happened to word the prompt that day.

Part 3 — Run the Electrical Panel Quotation Extraction Template

Note: Expect anywhere from 30 seconds to two to three minutes to complete the entire run. It runs on the whole project, so make sure you have a little bit of time set aside before you start it.

Note: Panel type, lugs, and materials are the items called out in the video. A lot of information comes across for each piece of equipment — the reported list is broader than these three fields.

Part 4 — Use the Yellow Links to Jump to the Source

As the extraction runs, IQ writes yellow links into the chat alongside the data it reports. Each link navigates you right to where IQ found that information.

Note: You can start reviewing with the links while Inspire IQ is still building the rest of the report. You do not have to wait for the full run to finish.

Part 5 — Trust but Verify the Output

Like anything with any AI chat, you are going to want to trust but verify before you quote from the extraction.

Best practice: Putting the source sheet side by side with the chat output is a quick way to verify and spot check, and it is a great way to be confident in what IQ is outputting for you.
