Lighting #3 - BOM Tables and Exports (5:47)

Overview

This guide details the process of extracting counts from your sheets and exporting them using AEC Inspired.

1. Preparation

  • Ensure Sheets Are Laid Out: Make sure all sheets are prepared and counts are completed.
2. Accessing the Quantities Tab
  • Step 1: Open Quantities Tab
    • On the left-hand side of the screen, navigate to the Quantities tab.
    • This tab allows you to view and manage the counts on your sheets.
3. Viewing the Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Step 2: Inspect BOM
    • Open the Bill of Material for your project.
    • You'll see various columns, including many that might be blank. These columns can be customized based on your needs.
4. Customizing Columns
  • Step 3: Remove Unnecessary Columns
    • At the top of any column header, click on the 3 lines to open a sub-menu.
    • Click on the waffle icon to access the Column Browser.
    • Remove columns that are not needed, such as Layer Order, Status, Level, Area, Room, etc.
    • This helps to create a more concise report.
5. Using Templates for Export
  • Step 4: Apply Default Templates
    • Scroll down in the Column Browser to find default templates.
    • Select the default counters by sheet and scope box template.
    • This template provides a streamlined view with essential information: Sheet, Scope Box, Item, and Quantity.
6. Modifying and Saving Templates
  • Step 5: Add or Modify Columns
    • If needed, add more columns by dragging them into the desired order.
    • Name the new template and save it to your profile.
    • This allows for consistent export formatting across different projects.
7. Exporting Data
  • Step 6: Export BOM
    • Scroll down to the bottom of the Quantities tab and select Export Itemized BOM.
    • This generates an Excel sheet based on the active view.
    • Open the Excel sheet to view a formatted representation of the BOM.
8. Rolling Up Counts
  • Step 7: Aggregate Counts
    • To get an overall project count, remove the Sheet column using the Column Browser.
    • This rolls up counts across the entire project, providing a summary without sheet-level breakdowns.
9. Finalizing and Saving Changes
  • Step 8: Save and Verify
    • Save the Excel export and verify the data to ensure accuracy.
    • This export can be easily shared with stakeholders or clients.
10. Tips and Tricks
  • Use Default Templates: Start with default templates for a quick setup and customize as needed.
  • Remove Unused Columns: Simplify the BOM by removing unnecessary columns.
  • Check for Consistency: Ensure all counts are accurate before exporting.
