V2.23.1.0 Release Notes
UX Improvements, Workflow Efficiency & Advanced Connection Modeling
Overview
AECInspire v2.23.1.0 introduces major improvements focused on usability, drawing comparison, Smart Count guidance, and advanced electrical connection modeling.
This release improves the platform in three key areas:
- Drawing Review & Validation – New sheet comparison tools help users quickly identify differences between drawings and revisions.
- Electrical Modeling Depth – Multi-connection support allows more accurate representation of circuits, phases, and complex wiring configurations.
- User Experience & Workflow Efficiency – UI updates improve navigation, clarity, and everyday productivity across modules.
These updates make AECInspire easier to use in the field while expanding its capability for complex electrical design workflows.
New Features
Sheet Overlay
Overview
The Sheet Overlay feature allows users to overlay multiple sheets directly on top of the active drawing.
Key Capabilities
- Overlay up to four sheets simultaneously
- Use additional drawings as a visual reference while working
- Continue editing the base sheet without interruption
- Quickly compare layouts between related drawings
Problem Solved
Previously, users had to manually switch between sheets to compare drawings. This process slowed down review workflows and made it easier to miss changes between documents.
Value to Users
- Faster comparison of design layouts
- Improved validation of drawing changes
- Better decision-making during placement and coordination
Sheet Version Compare
Overview
The Sheet Version Compare feature enables users to compare different versions of the same sheet to quickly identify revisions.
Key Capabilities
The system automatically highlights:
- Additions
- Deletions
- Modifications
Users can visually detect differences between sheet versions without manual review.
Problem Solved
Prior to this feature, AECInspire did not provide built-in revision comparison tools. Users had to manually inspect drawings to identify changes.
Value to Users
- Faster identification of revisions
- Reduced oversight during drawing reviews
- Increased accuracy when validating updated plans
Multi-Connection Capability Between Devices
Overview
AECInspire now supports multiple connections between the same pair of devices, allowing users to represent complex electrical systems more accurately.
Users can create up to 15 connections between the same two devices.
Each connection behaves as an independent conduit with its own properties and configuration.
Creating Multiple Connections
Users can now:
- Create multiple connections between the same device pair
- Model multiple circuits or phases
- Represent complex wiring configurations
Each connection supports:
- Circuit numbers
- Phase values
- Elevation settings
- Couplings
- Conduit properties
- Connection-specific parameters
Rules
- Maximum 15 connections per device pair
- Connections cannot be created on the same device
Editing Connection Properties
Each connection appears as a separate editable entity within the system.
Users can independently modify:
- Circuit and phase assignments
- Elevation values
- Path points
- Conduit properties
Connections also integrate fully with Manage Data.
Each connection is stored as its own row, allowing users to:
- Filter
- Sort
- Perform bulk edits
- Locate connections using the View highlight feature
Editing Connections in the Viewer
Additional improvements have been added to connection editing within the drawing viewer.
New capabilities include:
- Copy/paste for assemblies and connections
- Dynamic updates when assemblies are moved
- Automatic recalculation of wire lengths
- Independent direction changes for each connection
All existing calculation logic remains unchanged, including:
- Length calculations
- Wire adders
- Elevation factors
- Coupling calculations
Duplicate Connections
Users can now quickly duplicate an existing connection.
How it works:
- Right-click on a connection
- Select Duplicate Connection
The duplicated connection will:
- Appear directly below the original
- Inherit all existing properties including:
- Circuit
- Panel
- Wire size
- Layer
- Elevation
The option is disabled if no connection is selected.
Highlight & Resolve Overlapping Connections
AECInspire now automatically detects overlapping conduit connections.
Detection Criteria
Overlaps are detected when connections share:
- The same route
- Partially identical paths
- Fully overlapping segments
Overlap Resolution Screen
The system displays a list of overlapping connections including:
- Annotation Tag
- Connection ID
- From / To device information
Selecting an item from the list automatically highlights the connection on the sheet.
Resolution Workflow
Users resolve overlaps by adjusting connection paths on the drawing.
During the process:
- Resolved connections turn green
- New overlaps are detected dynamically
Available actions include:
- Save – Apply changes
- Cancel / Reset – Revert adjustments
Value to Users
- Eliminates visual clutter
- Prevents BOM inaccuracies
- Improves clarity of electrical layouts
Enhancements
Improved Selection of Linear Assemblies
Selecting linear assemblies on dense drawings has been improved.
Users no longer need to zoom excessively to interact with assemblies, making placement and editing faster during field workflows.
AECInspire Logo Navigation Behavior
Clicking the AECInspire logo while inside a project now returns users directly to the Main Dashboard.
Previously, the logo redirected to the AECInspire website.
This update provides a more consistent navigation experience and quicker access to projects.
Inspired Query Opens in Compact Mode
Inspired Query (IQ) now opens in compact layout mode by default when a project loads.
This improves screen space usage and allows users to access key functionality without blocking the workspace.
Instructional Tooltip During Cropping
A dynamic tooltip now appears during cropping actions in:
- Smart Count
- Screenshot tool
- Custom Assembly creation
The tooltip guides users during the crop selection process, helping reduce errors and improving onboarding for new users.
Assembly Sheet Tag Colors Enabled by Default
The Apply Color to Assembly Sheet Tag setting is now automatically enabled for new projects.
This provides immediate visual consistency and improves annotation readability without requiring manual setup.
Bottom Toolbar Redesign
The bottom toolbar has been redesigned for improved usability.
Enhancements include:
- Better spacing and alignment
- Consistent design across modules
- Improved responsiveness
Unified controls are now available for:
- Hide Placed Assemblies
- Hide Background
- Hide Scopebox
These controls now behave consistently across modules including:
- Smart Count
- Inspired Query
- Quantities
- Screenshot
- Manage Data
- Assemblies & Connections
Updated Close Button UX
The close action now uses a standard close icon paired with a “Close” label.
This change improves visibility and accessibility while aligning with other panel headers across the interface.
Default Trade Set to Electrical
When creating a new project, the Electrical trade is now selected by default.
This reduces setup steps and aligns the workflow with the primary user base.
Parameter Colormap Simplification
The Abbreviation column has been removed from the Parameter Colormap configuration.
This simplifies the interface and reduces confusion when setting up parameters.
Toolbar Terminology Improvements
Several toolbar labels have been updated for clarity.
| Previous | Updated |
|---|---|
| Transparency | Opacity |
| Previous | Back |
These changes align AECInspire with common UI terminology used in modern software.
