Creating RFIs (2:45)

Summary

This article explains how to create a Request for Information (RFI) using Inspired Query (IQ) inside AECInspire. It follows the same process shown in the training video and is kept simple for quick reference.

Before You Start:

  • You must have a project open in AECInspire.

  • Project documents should already be uploaded (plans, specifications, details).

TL;DR — Quick Steps

  1. Open Inspired Query (IQ).

  2. Type your question into the search bar.

  3. Review the answer and references.

  4. Click Create RFI.

  5. Add or adjust details.

  6. Save or export the RFI.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 — Open IQ

Where to look: Project menu → Inspired Query (IQ)
What to do: Click IQ to open the tool.

Step 2 — Ask Your Question

Where to look: IQ search bar
What to do: Type your question. For example:

  • “Are there discrepancies between the feeder sizes in the one-line diagram and the specification?”

  • “Does the spec conflict with the drawing on grounding requirements?”

  • “What potential gotchas exist in the fire alarm matrix compared to the plans?”

Step 3 — Review the Answer

Where to look: IQ results panel
What to do: Read the answer and check the document references that IQ provides.

Step 4 — Create the RFI

Where to look: IQ response panel
What to do: Click Create RFI. The system will copy your question and the answer into a new RFI form.

Step 5 — Add Details

Where to look: RFI form
What to do: Add a title, assign it to the right person, and set a due date. Example title: “Discrepancy between spec and plan for feeder sizes.”

Step 6 — Save or Export

Where to look: Bottom of the RFI form
What to do: Save the RFI in AECInspire, or export it as a PDF/Word file to share.

Troubleshooting

  • No Create RFI button? Run a query first — the button only appears after IQ generates an answer.

  • Answer too vague? Reword your question to point out the specific discrepancy or issue you’re concerned about.
