Summary

This article introduces Inspired Query (IQ), AECInspire’s AI-powered assistant that helps you ask questions about your project documents and get instant answers. IQ is designed to save you time by eliminating hours of manual searching through drawings, specifications, and submittals. This guide is meant to provide a high-level overview and get you comfortable using IQ for the first time.

Before You Start:

  • Have a project open in AECInspire.

  • Upload project documents such as plans, specifications, and schedules.

What is IQ?

IQ is a tool inside AECInspire that allows you to type natural language questions about your project and get answers directly from your uploaded documents. Instead of flipping through hundreds of pages, IQ quickly points you to the relevant information.

How to Use IQ

Step 1 — Open IQ

Where to look: Project menu → Inspired Query (IQ)
What to do: Click to open IQ from your project workspace.
Why this matters: IQ is available at the project level so your questions stay connected to project documents.

Step 2 — Ask a Question

Where to look: IQ search bar
What to do: Type a question in plain English, such as:

  • “What feeder sizes are specified for panel L2?”

  • “Is MC cable allowed in this project?”
Why this matters: You don’t need technical coding or search skills — just ask the question as you would to a teammate.

Step 3 — Review the Answer

Where to look: IQ results panel
What to do: Review the response IQ provides, along with links to the supporting document references.
Why this matters: Always confirm the answer by checking the linked spec section or drawing page.

Step 4 — Take Action

Where to look: IQ response options
What to do: From the answer panel, you can save the question as a prompt, create an RFI, or simply note the reference for your team.
Why this matters: IQ connects directly into your workflow — helping with clarifications, documentation, and collaboration.

Tips for Success

  • Be clear and specific: Mention sheet numbers, panel names, or system types when possible.

  • Start broad, refine later: If your first answer is too general, ask again with more detail.

  • Save useful prompts: Store frequently used questions so you don’t have to retype them on every project.

Troubleshooting

  • Didn’t get a useful answer? Try rephrasing your question with more context.

  • Missing documents? Make sure all relevant project files are uploaded before running a query.

Outputs

  • Result: Clear answers drawn from your project documents.

  • Where to find it: In the IQ results panel, with links back to the original documents.
